Many customers have asked this question : Why should I have an Online Jewelry Store?

Everytime, the answers have been different for different customers depending on their problems. It would be a good idea to list all of those benefits together, at a single place. I have classified them into 3 categories:

1. Investment
2. Inventory
3. Availability

1. Investment: For any business, there are 2 major investments: Time & Cost. How much time you have to spend to get it to market & how much money would you put in.

Saving Costs:
When you speak of running a Jewelry business, we are talking about the most precious metals in the world i.e. Gold, Silver, Platinum, Diamonds & many others. If you are setting up a physical store, you would need anywhere between $100K to $150K to purchase all the inventory, a store & other stuff. That is huge! The alternative is to open an Online Jewelry Store instead of a physical one. You would wonder how does that save costs? Well, you don’t need the huge inventory. The main reason for procuring inventory is that you should have something to show to your customers when they come to your store. Incase of an Online jewelry store, you have all the inventory to show to the customer, but not physical, it’s virtual, it’s online. So the figure of $100K to $150K comes down to around $5K or around that mark or even less in some cases if you go for a SAAS based jewelry store.

Saving Time:
This is for the jewelry store owner as well as the consumer. For the store owner, getting an online jewelry store up & running takes far lesser time than a physical store. For a physical store, it would take anywhere between 3 to 6 months for you to purchase all your inventory & setup your store. For Online Jewelry Store, it would take anywhere between 1 to 3 months, ofcourse with far lesser costs.

For the consumer, he or she does not really have to go to the jewelry store to purchase jewelry. Any jewelry can be purchased online without having to struggle to find out time to visit the store. It empowers the customers to purchase beautiful rings, necklaces, etc. from the comfort of their home or office in minutes.

2. Inventory: We talked about purchasing your inventory in point 1 if you are setting up a physical store. It’s not just the cost, it’s more than that.

Range of Inventory:
In case of a physical store, when you purchase your Jewelry Inventory once, it does not mean you are never going to have to purchase it again. It’s a continuous process. And that too has a limit. You can purchase only a few 100 items when you talk of a budget of $100K to $150K. In case of an online jewelry store, there is no ‘number’ attached to your inventory. What I mean to say is you can have an inventory that can comprise of 1000s of jewelry items & 1000s of diamonds to showcase to your customers. And on top of all this, it allows you to showcase your jewelry in a very nice way with the help of high resolution images & videos.

Physical Catalog:
In case of an physical store, you also need to have a physical catalog & update it everytime you have new designs. It is a tedious process, isn’t it? In an online jewelry store, you simply need to add the new items to your portfolio of your online store & it is out to the world.

3. Availability & Market:

Global Reach

You can sell product to anyone in any country worldwide. That’s the power of having an online jewelry store. Your market expands exponentially by just putting your store online. You can’t have that leverage with a physical store.

Open 24/7

The store is open 24 hours, 7 days/week, 365 days/year. Imagine having to do that with a physical store. When would you take your christmas or diwali vacation?

4. Others

There are many other benefits of having your store online. They just don’t end. Some of them are:

- Better Customer Service
- No employees
- Wide range of choices
- Affordable prices
And it just goes on & on.

Unable to take a call yet? Worried about who will develop this online store for you? That’s what Bigg Stock provides. We build the perfect online jewelry store for your business. Take a look at what we have to offer & you will be surprised to see how easy we have made it for you to build your online store.

It happened many times. We used to take a look at our logo design and it didn’t seem to have the same oomph that it did a couple of years ago. Maybe it was a great logo design idea at the time, but now it’s looking a little tired. Or maybe it was created under a time (or budget) crunch that precluded a complete or thorough work up. It wasn’t an easy decision to make whether to change the logo in mid-stride, but we decided to go ahead & give it a shot.

The new Logo
The new logo comprises of our company name plus an electric light bulb with the ‘S’ being rotated & depicted at the centre of the bulb as a filament. The symbol of an electric light bulb emphasizes what we do really well – ‘Empowering your business’. Thus we have designed it into the middle letter of the brand ‘S’, without losing the clarity of the brand name. Usage of lower case gives legibility and less imposing apart from a friendlier approach. Our job doesn’t stop at just developing a solution for you & moving out. Our job is not over till we have made sure that you are completely satisfied with what you’ve got. Our commitment to our customers is reinforced through this new logo. In short, we have captured in our logo, all that we are striving to achieve.

The Promise
Bright, innovative ideas & solutions, that is what we promise to offer. With the new logo and the capabilities we have built, we are today offering new customer experience in fulfillment of their dreams and aspirations. The 3 promises we deliver today along with our new logo are:

a) Value for Money – Our product and services would have great value appeal to our customers and its value will transcend the price to provide higher customer satisfaction.

b) In all our product offerings we will use technology and process to deliver within a committed time. If the time line is missed or if you stand unsatisfied at the end of everything, there will be a commitment to compensate through refund of fees.

c) We are committed to transparency in all our offerings. Product and pricing will be spelt out in clear terms and there will be no opaqueness.

We would love to hear your first reactions.

The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council announces International Diamond Conference, Mines to Market 2010 on October 12th &13th, 2010 in Mumbai, India. The two day conference would witness Presidents, Ministers from various mining countries such Angola, Botswana, SA, Canada etc, Delegates from Mining Companies, heads of Retail and Luxury brands such as Signet, Blue Nile, Pandora, Int. Diamond heads of various banks such as ABN Antwerp diamond Bank and SBI. With names like Gareth Penny, Varda Shine, Jean Marc Lieberherr among others M2M 2010 will without doubt be the milestone event in the history of the global diamond industry.

India entered the world cut and polished diamond market when it commenced exports in the late ’60s. In less than three decades, India had emerged as the clear leader in the international polished market.

Over the last few years, India has not only maintained its position as the leading diamond manufacturing centre, it has also increased its share of the market. India today has attained the position of “World Diamond Hub” with India’s Global Share in Diamond witnessing a remarkable increase in VALUE Terms. More importantly the last ten years have also seen the consolidation of a process which began earlier – the move by some Indian companies into the processing of large stones of better quality.

Mr. Vasant Mehta, Chairman, GJEPC, speaking on the initiative said, “Time has come to establish India as a ‘BRAND’ to reckon with in the Gem & Jewellery sector. Indian Gem & Jewellery Industry today enjoys a leadership position globally in manufacturing of diamonds, which is attributed to the in house expertise of manufacturing and cutting edge craftsmanship. Thus India as a diamond manufacturing centre today has skills in producing cut and polished diamonds of virtually every size shape and colour. There has also been a concerted attempt to innovate and develop new cuts. India’s Diamond share in the world market also witnessed an increase in this period from 60% to 70%.”

India has seen an accelerated development on the jewellery front as well, both in terms of quality of the product and the expansion of the industry in terms of sheer size. On the domestic front there has been a proliferation of brands being offered to the Indian consumer. Today the jewellery industry is set to take off on a journey of exponential growth with increasingly open policies, a rapid development of Special Economic Zones in different parts of the country.

One of India’s leading foreign exchange earning sectors over the year has witnessed a considerable growth in the volume of exports which were pegged at US$ 28 Billion. From export figures of US$24894.39 million in the FY 2008-2009, the exports have shown considerable increase and have registered at US$ 29433.70 million in FY 2009-2010, thus indicating an increase of 18.23% in the total Gem & Jewellery exports.

Thus the 3rd Mines to Market Conference aims at taking stock of the Diamond industry globally, and evolving a way forward for future. Each Country would present a paper on their current scenario and future programs, along with Panel discussions on the same.

The Mines to Market Conference in the past, has received enthusiastic response from all stakeholders in the diamond industry, and has emerged as a platform for meaningful interaction and forging business ties.

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has announced that the French jewellery manufacturer, Gay Frères, is the first Member to be certified against the ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards as established by the RJC’s Member Certification System.

Gay Frères’ RJC Member Certification results from a successful verification assessment conducted by STR, an international audit firm which was the RJC’s first accredited auditor, as announced at the JCK Las Vegas trade fair in June.

“The RJC is delighted to congratulate Gay Frères becoming its first RJC Certified Member. This important milestone builds on five years of sustained effort by the RJC’s Members to create the independent third party RJC Member Certification System applicable from mine to retail”, says Matt Runci, RJC’s Chairman.

“RJC Certified Members have the benefit of recognition against an international certification system, supporting their own reputations and enhancing consumer confidence in the jewellery supply chain more generally. Many RJC Members have commenced the process towards Certification and we look forward to announcing their achievements over the coming months”, says Matt Runci.

Founded in 1835, Gay Frères is well known as a manufacturer and supplier of the greatest European jewellery brands, employing 300 people and producing 1000 jewellery pieces on a daily basis. With more than 170 years of history in the jewellery industry, the company relies on the most modern technologies combined with artisanal expertise.

“We are most proud to be the first RJC Member to achieve this important certification and we encourage others within the industry to follow suit so that they too can evidence responsible business practices. We are committed to improving industry standards and to supporting the RJC’s mission”, says Claude Schlappi, Gay Frères’s Director.

“STR is honoured to have completed the first ever RJC verification assessment and Certification recommendation for Gay Frères. Gay Frères carried out a thorough self assessment to ensure they met RJC Code of Practices. While conducting our independent verification of their self assessment, we found that Gay Frères not only met the requirements, but made it a smooth process by communicating with us transparently and ensuring their whole management team was available during the process. STR looks forward to working with other RJC Members on their path to Certification”, says Russ Childrey, Vice President STR Responsible Sourcing.

“The Union Française BJOP was delighted to learn that Gay Frères have been certified and we hope that this very important step for this company encourages other companies to do the same. We believe that it is in the best interests of all our members to ensure that they, and in turn the consumer, can have confidence in the integrity of the products that they buy and sell. BJOP strongly supports the Council and we are continuing to reinforce the RJC mission within our members”, says Bernadette Pinet Cuoq, Chief Executive Officer, BJOP.

It’s time to say good bye to the 27th edition of India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) organized by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) at NSE Grounds, Mumbai. The last four days have seen numerous beautiful jewellery pieces on display by companies across the globe. IIJS 2010 presented a wide range of latest and trendy jewellery designs.

IIJS 2010 has been conferred the “Made in India” status by the Ministry of Commerce and has provided a wonderful platform to the exhibitors here. The last four days has witnessed companies promoting their products and brands and IIJS 2010 has been making giant strides with all the exhibition halls seeing large footfalls each passing day.

A glittering show, this year there was an added attraction provided by the huge foreign delegation and the additional special gallery for international buyers. There were six pavilions from leading industry centers like Belgium, Thailand, Israel, Italy, Turkey and the UAE.

There were trade delegations from China, Malaysia, Japan, Iran, UAE, Syria, Morocco, Libya, Bangladesh, Russia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, UK, Hungary and Poland all visiting the show.

According to Mr. Suken Shah, Sparsh Jewellers, first time participants at IIJS, “We are very happy and quite surprised at the response we have got at the show. So long we had just heard people raving about the IIJS but now we too have experienced the greatness of the show. We got selected on a lucky draw basis and are so glad for the same”.

Similar thoughts are being echoed by other first time as well as regular exhibitors. IIJS 2010 has turned out to be a very extraordinary show with 16,000 pre-registered visitors and other on-the-spot registrations. One is amazed at the increasing number of footfalls each passing hour and the surge of visitors even on the final day.

Sarin Technologies launched its enhanced DiaExpert™ Nano rough planning and marking system with an extended range to cover a wider scope of small to medium sized rough diamonds.

The previous model of the DiaExpert Nano system was designed for speed processing of rough diamonds between 0.01 and 0.30 carats, which Sarin concluded took less than one minute for modelling, planning and marking. In response to market demand, the enhanced model, the DiaExpert Nano 6.5, processes diamonds from 0.15 to 0.70 carats at almost the same speed.

Uzi Levami, Sarin’s chief executive, said, “Sarin’s attentive contact with its customers has enabled us yet again to provide them with an optimal solution for their needs and allow them to optimise their production lines to meet current market demand.”
